Robert in his shop...fixing the jetta

Robert is always laying on the ground in the shop or leaning over one car or another.
He had to fix the bad alternator in the jetta this time. He ordered a replacement part to fix the bad one and after 4 days of down time the jetta is up an running again. We are so grateful that he can do these repairs. I called a repair shop and got an price range for this and they said $350(including labor) I didn't ask how much just for the new alternator but Robert got the new part needed to fix the old one for pennies so I am thinking 4 days after work( an hour or so per night) was worth saving us that money...what do ya think???

He thinks the jetta is on it's last leg(too many minor things to fix at this point) to keep it as his main car for much longer and he wants to put a new engine in the very gross diesel rabbit (filled with mold that I will have spend a day or two cleaning) to make that his commuter. The sacrifices this man makes by driving these horrible vehicles are insurmountable! He says the rabbit will get 55 mpg so it does work much better, on paper anyway! I am just glad I don't have to drive it but in a pinch I guess I would?? Oh the price of having to pay off debt before we die!

The way I figure it is that 100 years from now, or even 20, no one will know or care what type of cars we had to drive will they? There is something very satisfying about owning these babies outright and being able to pay cash to repair them, when needed( which isn't as often as you would think).

It's so nice to be married to someone who can find his way around a shop and fix a car, isn't it?? So great. And I think not going into debt for a car is a very very smart thing, unfortunately we've had to find that out the hard way. It's going to be so nice to be out of debt(from everything)... eventually. Good job Robert, you are awesome!!

Way to include Robert. It so nice just to get an idea in your head of what a project or a place at your house our just an everyday event, looks like! Just to think about and enjoy it for the fun of it. Just keep bugging him and sooner or later he'll see the light and start blogging. You better take lots of pictures of your camping trips!
