Volunteering in Kyzen's class today.

I went in to fill the Scholastic order for Kyzen's teacher and she asked if I would stay for reading time. I ended up being there for 2 hours. There was a boy in her class that is 8 years old and he cannot read a single word. He is new at La Center so I don't know his story but I could tell he had some sort of learning disability. To look at him all you see is the very handsome boy with a big bright smile. He had dimples that would melt any one's heart. To top it off his name is Christian! I knelt down by him and read to him and helped him fill out his paper(he could write letters but didn't know how to spell by himself). It was such a truly humbling experience. This made me want to go into that classroom everyday and help that little boy! I know I can't do it everyday but it has given me some good perspective on how to spend my time. A new perspective on helping others! It didn't feel like a chore to help this boy and that gives me hope that the "old Danelle" is making a come back! Serving others has been difficult for me this past year or so. I have felt like it is too much of a chore to give of my time because I can barely keep up my own life much less help others right now but maybe this was the Lord's way of showing me that I can help others and it can feel good again! I am grateful the Lord looks after me and is carefully giving me experiences that are teaching me and bringing me closer to Him. The days are looking up again.
