And that my friends is what you call a ROOSTER!

Two nights ago the friend that gave us the 3 chickens to start us off came over and took a gander at the brood. He thought maybe this particular "hen" was pretty big and had the male tail feathers but since I had not heard it "cock-a- doodle-do" yet he said maybe it was just a big hen? Well....this morning as I was toweling dry after my shower I heard a strange sound coming from our backyard???? "What was that?"I thought. " Hey that didn't come from Leonard and Dinah's house?" I opened the bathroom window and waited to see if I could hear it again??? "YEP! That is a rooster in my hen yard!" I ran downstairs to tell the kids and take this picture. So...we now have a Rooster (I didn't want one but he is pretty docile so we will keep him for now) One of our babies got pecked to death the other day (which , I guess happens) so I have put the big chickens outside for now with a nesting box and the babies inside with the chicken door closed. I thought it might traumatize the hens and they might not lay for a while but the next morning there was a fabulous egg in that box! Go egg layers!
