Teaching my children to do laundry

I have this "disorder",we'll call it, where I can't let go of doing the laundry. Granted, I rarely keep up on it and have piles and piles of either clean or dirty or BOTH laying around in the laundry room or my bedroom. Robert doesn't like having laundry laying in our room where the kids have to wander in and out to find their stuff because then we have no privacy...PROBLEMS PROBLEMS! So...I decided this week that I was going to do something about this disaster of a problem before I go crazy! The thing is is that I really like the clothes to be hung up and folded a certain way, very particular I am..even though half the time it just sits wadded up in buckets??? I said to myself " Either get over it Danelle and show the kids how to put it away themselves or SUFFER!" I came up with a system. I have 4 buckets that are coordinating colors(they match the 2 towels each that my kids get for the week..PERFECT!) So they sit on a table in my garage/laundry room accross form the washer/dryer(as pictured). When a load comes out of the dryer I sort into prspective buckets and when the kids come home they get their buckets and put thier own laundry away, then bring the buckets right back to assume waiting position! BRILLIANT,I know! Now, why didn't I think of this sooner? Who knows??? I am a slow learner, I suspect...oh and stubborn, controlling, resistant to change ( I can go on all day if you like?). Anyhow, I was surprised that they did pretty well hanging up their clothes(sort of how I do it???)...as you can see in the picture(Jay's closet). I have bins for Kole and Kyzen on shelves in their rooms for their socks, underwear, pajamas and shorts/swim trunks. This way the 2 younger ones can just stuff that stuff in the matching bins...AGAIN with the BRILIANCE.....OH STOP.....! Mind you, the closets are not EXACTLY how I would keep them with the Color coded system of Sweatshirts first then, longsleeve shirts, then shortsleeve shirts...then lastly pants...AHHHH PERFECTION...CLOSET EYE CANDY! Yes, I do need to seek phsyciatric help, I am aware. In the end I have a ton less laundry to put away and plenty of time to eat bonbons in front of the tv while watching daytime tv all day..isn't that what stay-at-home moms do all day anyway??? HAH! I wish...but I do get to focus my efforts else where and the children are responsible for more of their own things...it's a win win, if you ask me! WHEW! I am long winded today...thanks for listening and NO! I haven't taught them to actually do the laundry yet...BABY STEPS PEOPLE...BABY STEPS.

Danelle, I'm just popping my buttons, I am so proud of you. And see, the kids have learned from your example and are doing likewise. Now when they are on their missions or at college, then later married, they will not be laundry-illiterate much to the relief of their companions/roommates/spouses!

Danelle,
I have to agree with (I am assuming is Robert's mother)! She is right on the money. Trey is at school and assists all the guys on his floor with laundering. Just a side note he also cooks. He can't stand the caf food so he cooks in the dorm mini kitchen for his mates. He gets them to buy the food and he cooks it it's a win win seeing how he's a jobless bum at school!
